30-year-old man sentenced to 3 years in prison for rape in Kisoro

KAMPALA, Uganda | A 30-year-old man was sentenced to three years and six months in Kisoro by the Chief Magistrate’s Court for attempting to commit rape.

On May 9, 2025, Didas Atuheire tried to rape a woman in Bukimbiri County, Kisoro District, at Kashenyi Cell, Nyanamo Town Council.

Kisoro Chief Magistrate Keneth Komakech sentenced Atuheire to 3 years and 6 months after he pleaded guilty to attempted rape. According to His Worship Komakech, Atuheire’s guilty plea results in his conviction as charged.

The prosecution, led by Kisoro Senior State Attorney Christopher Ayinomugisha, contended that attempted rape is a grave offence that calls for harsh punishment, including the death penalty, in order to discourage future perpetrators.

Nicolas Kubalinini, the defence attorney, argued for a light sentence, pointing to his client’s cooperation with the police and the fact that he saved the court time by choosing not to hold a full trial.
