Maid murders her boss in Rukungiri over rag

KAMPALA, Uganda | Police in Rukungiri are looking for a housemaid who allegedly murdered her employer after a quarrel over a mopping rag.

The suspect identified as Constance killed 81-year-old Kedress Kashillingi on Sunday morning at Nyakabare village, Central Division, Kebisoni Town Council.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Spokesperson, the investigators recovered bloodstains at the scene and found a hoe, which the suspect allegedly used to strike Kashillingi on the head.

Maate further confirmed that police have launched a manhunt for Constance and vowed to arrest and charge her accordingly.

According to police reports, Constance started working for Kashillingi on the 5th of May, 2025, after the deceased had picked her up from Kebisoni Trading Centre while she was job hunting.

Catherine Natukunda and her son Brighton Tumusiime, who was the deceased’s granddaughter and lives with Kashillingi in the same house, said that the quarrel started at 7:15 am after a disagreement to buy some items.

But later, Tumusiime told Natukunda that Kashillingi was lying dead in her bedroom; she rushed home and found Kashillingi dead, with the body covered by a cloth, and Constance had left the scene.
