KAMPALA, Uganda | Renowned Ugandan musician Patrick Mulwana, popularly known as Alien Skin, has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of robbery and use of violence. The charges were presented on November 20, 2024, at the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court, where Mulwana pleaded not guilty.
The allegations stem from an incident on September 28, 2024, in Makindye Division, Kampala, where Mulwana is accused of robbing Salim Mubiru of an iPhone 15 valued at Shs3.5 million, Shs480,000 in cash, and a wallet containing Mubiru’s national ID. The charges, filed under Sections 266 and 267(1)(A) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128, include the use of violence during the alleged offense.
Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Esther Adikini informed Mulwana that while bail could not be processed during the late session, he is entitled to apply for a production warrant to seek bail at a future date. The case was adjourned to December 9, 2024, for further mention.
Police have indicated that Mulwana is also being investigated for a separate incident involving alleged assault and simple robbery at Nsambya Hospital. According to police reports, the hospital incident occurred on November 19, 2024, following the death of a patient, Joram Tumwesigye, who had been brought to the hospital by unidentified individuals. Witnesses allege that Mulwana and his group assaulted medical staff, including Dr. Zaidi Matovu, and security personnel after reportedly demanding medical forms.
Police spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that statements have been recorded from victims and eyewitnesses, with investigations ongoing. Additional charges may be considered based on the findings.
Robbery under Ugandan law, especially when coupled with violence, carries significant penalties, including life imprisonment. The case has drawn public attention due to Mulwana’s celebrity status and the serious nature of the charges.
The upcoming court sessions and ongoing investigations will determine the legal course for both the robbery charges and the Nsambya Hospital allegations. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent process for all parties involved.
