Busia LCV remanded for wrongful confinement

KAMPALA, Uganda The Chairperson of the Busia District Local Government (LCV), Stephen Mugeni Wasike, has been re-arrested and charged with criminal offences, including wrongful confinement and threatening assault on the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Lubuuka David, while he violently demanded a government vehicle on the 9th of May 2025.

This was after several witnesses at the district who observed the fracas were interviewed and aided the investigation, leading to the charges against Mugeni.

Mugeni was arrested, arraigned in Busia Chief Magistrates Court and remanded until the 16th of June 2025 on charges of stealing parts of a vehicle, including an engine and gearbox from motor vehicle registration number UAK 827Z Toyota Hilux double cabin, property of the Busia District Local Government.

The arrest was carried out by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The court proceedings are set to resume next month as investigations continue.
