Court remands two police officers over assault.

KAMPALA,Uganda| The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kajjansi has remanded two police officers attached to the Environment Protection Unit on the charges of assaulting Maria Nabukalu while carrying out their duties.

The Officers are Constable Alex Katungi, a resident of Buziga, and Assistant Inspector of Police Kenneth Hadali, a resident of Bukono Municipality, were arraigned before Grade One Magistrate Pascal Olupot and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, contrary to the Penal Code Act.

The prosecution alleges that Katungi and others still at large on January 16, 2025, at Kitende village in Kajjansi town council assaulted Nabukalu, causing her bodily harm. It is further alleged that Katungi conspired with Hadali to commit a misdemeanour by unlawfully assaulting Nabukalu.

The officers were arrested by detectives attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit headed by Brigadier Henry Isoke. According to the unit, PC Katungi is under investigation following numerous complaints of harassment, illegal arrests, land grabbing, and extortion from residents and investors in the Entebbe and Kajjansi areas. He is further accused of abusing his authority in wetlands around Kajjansi and Entebbe.
