KAMPALA, Uganda | The Industrial Court of Uganda has suspended court sessions after the death of an independent panellist at the court, John Musimbi, who was reportedly travelling on a YY coach bus which was involved in a serious accident at Makindu village along the Katosi-Nyenga road which claimed many lives.
According to Acting Registrar of the Industrial Court of Uganda, Lubowa Daniel, “While we awaited information from the family, with assistance from the Uganda Police, we gathered in Court at 12:00pm to pray for Hon. Musimbi and his family. All the matters scheduled for this morning before both judges have been adjourned accordingly.”
According to Lubowa, Hon. Musimbi’s family has not been able to locate him among the survivors or identify him among the deceased.
YY coach overturned and crashed on Monday evening on the Mukono-Katosi-Jinja road , reportedly killing dozens of passengers.
The accident involved a Scania motor vehicle, registration number UAV 701C, belonging to YY Company. The vehicle was traveling from Katosi to Jinja when the driver lost control at Makindu Village
According to police, it overturned and caught fire, and three people have been confirmed dead; 30 people were injured and have been rushed to Kawolo Hospital, St Francis Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe, and other nearby health facilities, where they are currently receiving medical attention. The identities of the deceased have not yet been established, as the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
