KAMPALA, Uganda | The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) joined leaders in Pader in the fight against corruption.
This comes after the judiciary carried out a stake holders engagement that was aimed at sensitization against corruption in the Judiciary on March 18 2025
Legal Officer with the JSC lsaac Nduggwa said that many people are dissatisfied with Court processes due to lack of legal awareness in the communities
He noted that most corruption cases in courts are often fueled by both court officials and the public adding that some individuals attempt to influence rulings in their favor.
The Pukor Sub County Chairperson Richard Ojwini told the JSC to extend training and sensitization efforts to village chairpersons as they play critical role in addressing corruption at grass roots level adding that empowering local leaders with legal knowledge would help communities understand processes thus reducing corruption.
Ballex Okello the Paiula Sub county Councillor V was concerned in inconsistencies in court rulings after appeals questioning why different levels of court often deliver varying judgements on the same case which leads to confusion among litigants.
The Chief Magistrate Martins Kirya said that judicial errors occur which is why the appeals system exists and further added that a Grade one Court ruling can be overturned by High Court and subsequently the Supreme Court can annul a High Court decision.
The Pader District Secretary for Works and Technical Services criticized the police for making arrests without conducting thorough investigations and further asked release of suspects detained beyond the legal 48- hour period as required by law before being presented in court.
