Judiciary Deploys New Judicial Officers, Transfers 45 to Enhance Service Delivery
Chief Justice Hon. Alfonse Owiny-Dollo

KAMPALA, Uganda | The Judiciary in Uganda has deployed 25 newly appointed Judicial Officers and transferred 45 others at the rank of Registrars and Magistrates. These changes according to Judiciary are aimed at addressing the growing caseloads and reducing the backlog of cases in various courts across the country.

The Chief Justice, Hon. Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, has said that these deployments and transfers are part of the Judiciary’s broader Transformational Agenda, which seeks to enhance access to justice. “We are continuing with our agenda of bridging the gap between we the justice providers and the justice seekers by taking court services closer to our people,” said the Chief Justice. He further emphasized that the Judiciary will continue to build more courthouses, employ additional personnel, and provide modern tools to enhance the working conditions in courts.

The Chief Registrar, Her Worship Sarah Langa Siu, noted that some of the deployments and transfers involve new Magisterial Areas, such as Nakaseke, Gomba, Butaleja, and Kawempe, where Judicial Officers will be stationed to pioneer justice services.

The Judiciary has also focused on areas with high caseloads, including Mukono, Mbarara, and Buganda Road. For instance, Buganda Road Court, which recently began handling civil matters, will now have an additional Chief Magistrate stationed at the Law Development Centre to provide professional support and mentorship to students.

The deployments, effective immediately, include Acting Chief Magistrates such as HW Nambatya Irene, who has been deployed from Nansana to Dokolo, and HW Kwesiga Joseph, who has been assigned to Nakaseke. Other new assignments include HW Ndagire Patricia to Kaberamaido.

Transfers, effective January 1, 2025, include moves such as HW Agwero Catherine from Kabale to Luwero, and HW Mulalira Faisal Umar from the Judicial Training Institute to Masindi. Several Assistant Registrars and Senior Magistrates have also been transferred to various new locations across the country.

The deployment of these officers, along with the strategic transfers, reflects the Judiciary’s commitment to improving the quality and timeliness of justice delivery. The changes are expected to support the Judiciary in its ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by the public in accessing justice and to strengthen the legal infrastructure nationwide.

According to the Judiciary Public Relations Officer, HW Ereemye James JM,these changes are a key component of the Judiciary’s focus on enhancing public service delivery and ensuring that judicial services are more responsive to the needs of the Ugandan public.
