KAMPALA, Uganda | The lawyers representing Molly Katanga, the widow of the deceased Henry Katanga, have today challenged the evidence brought by the ballistics and forensic examiner. Derrick Nasawali on the report regarding the killer pistol before High Court Criminal Division Judge Rossette Kania Comfort.
Nasawali told the court on Monday that a toxicology examination revealed gunshot residue on Molly’s clothes and hands. However, today, after being cross-examined,. By defense lawyer Elison Karuhanga, he clarified that this doesn’t necessarily mean someone fired a gun.
Nasawali also said that his examination of the pistol and ammunition couldn’t confirm whether Katanga’s death was a suicide or homicide, as his role was limited to examining the alleged killer’s weapons. He added that his report doesn’t confirm that any of the five accused persons in the case fired the fatal bullet.
Justice Rosette Kania adjourned the case to Wednesday for the prosecution, comprised of Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya, Annah Kiiza, and Director of Public Prosecutions Samalie Wakooli, to bring their 12th witness. Molly Katanga is facing charges of murder by shooting of her husband, Henry Katanga, on November 2, 2023, at their home in Mbuya 2 road in Nakawa, Kampala.
