Kigumba Town Clerk Ordered to Return UGX 32M.

KAMPALA, Uganda| The Deputy Inspector General of Government, Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, has ordered the Assistant Town Clerk of Kigumba Town Council in Kiryandogo to return 32.086 million shillings, which he misappropriated while he was working as the Sub County Chief of Kigumba County.

In a statement issued by the Inspectorate of Government dated 26th March, 2025, the misappropriated money was part of 89,728,689 in revenue collected from the Uganda Wildlife Authority meant for various activities such as reducing human-wildlife conflict and improving livelihoods in villages bordering the Murchison Falls National Park.

According to the Deputy Inspector General of Government, Fred Kagara was given two months to deposit the misappropriated funds into the bank. This was after investigations were conducted.

” In line with Regulation 15(2) of the Local Governments (Financial and Accounting) Regulations , 2207, the misappropriated funds will be recovered, Mr. Kagara. He is expected to deposit the funds into the Inspectorate of Government Assets Recovery Bank Account within 60 days (May 11, 2025) from the date of receipt of the refund order on March 12, 2025,” statement read
