KAMPALA, Uganda| The Uganda Law Society has condemned the abduction of National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine’s, bodyguard Eddie Mutwe.
Eddie Mutwe was detained by security operatives, as confirmed by Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba on X, formerly Twitter.
“He is in my basement.” “If you see Eddie’s head now, he looks like an egg. Totally clean,” the General said.
“The beards were the first thing the boys removed. After he finished crying and urinating,” Muhoozi wrote.
And also added: “Eddie is looking very smart these days. The boys have tuned him well. He salutes Mzee’s picture every day before breakfast.”
This follows an earlier statement by National Unity Platform General Secretary David Lewis Rubongoya, who announced on Wednesday that Mutwe had been “kidnapped by armed men” from Mbalwa in Mukono District. His whereabouts had remained unknown since.
Vice President of the Uganda Law Society today, Anthony Asiimwe, said that Mutwe’s ordeal is not an isolated incident but part of a systematic campaign to silence dissent and crush the aspirations of a people yearning for freedom. The reported involvement of high-ranking officials of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces underscores a dangerous nexus of military power and political oppression.
Asiimwe demanded an immediate release of Eddie Mutwe and all political prisoners. requested an independent investigation into allegations of torture, abduction, and disinformation campaigns with accountability for perpetrators, including high-ranking officials.
” The ULS commits to mobilising legal, civic, and global support for Eddie Mutwe and all victims of state violence. We will not rest until justice is served and Uganda is free. The time for a radical new dawn is now. Together, we shall overcome.” Asiimwe said
ULS further called upon the international community to pull decisive action-targeted measures, diplomatic pressure, and support for human rights defenders to hold Uganda’s leaders accountable.
